Information Technology and Computers at Kettering College

Overview

Your KCMA e-mail account is where you receive all official communication from the College, including messages from your professors.  It is a web-based system powered by Microsoft Livemail and comes with a 5 GB e-mail capacity, handles larger file attachments, and includes your own personal online document and file storage (SkyDrive) with a 25 GB capacity!

Getting There

To access your KCMA e-mail account:

  • Navigate to http://email.kcma.edu (do NOT use "www" – it will not work if you do!)
  • Enter your e-mail address as the user ID. Your e-mail address is your first initial, middle initial and last name @email.kcma.edu.  For example, if your name is Jane Emily Smith, then your e-mail address will be jesmith@email.kcma.edu.  Occasionally, someone with similar initials to yours will have received that e-mail address first.  In that case, your e-mail address will have a number attached to it (i.e. jesmith2@email.kcma.edu)
  • To find your e-mail address, login to the Student Portal and click “Edit Profile” under your name.
  • Your initial password will consist of the last five digits of your student ID number followed immediately by the last four digits of your SSN.
  • In most cases you will be required to change this password on your first login. If you change your password you should use a “strong” password that you know you can remember. A strong password is at least 8 characters long and contains a mix of uppercase/lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters such as !#$%^&*. Note: your password cannot be looked up so it is important to remember it!
  • Once you finish setting up your security preferences, you will be logged off so you can login with your new password. Now enter the scrambled letter puzzle as one last security measure and you are in.

PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR PASSWORD! Forgetting a password can cause all sorts of problems (they cannot be looked up!), so we recommend that you NOT have your computer remember the password – this only helps you to forget it.

Questions or problems? Call the KCMA IT Help Desk at ext 53636 or IM kcmahelp.

Don't confuse your REAL e-mail with ANGEL's email service – ANGEL e-mail is merely course messaging; not true Internet e-mail. By default, ANGEL messages are automatically forwarded to your KCMA e-mail account, but e-mail is NOT forwarded to ANGEL, so if you are only going to choose one account to keep up with, let it be the KCMA account!

Outlook

Although this is a web-based e-mail account, the look and feel of the LiveMail system is a lot like Outlook. If you are convenience-minded and use Microsoft Outlook 2003 or 2007, you can download a free “Outlook Connector” program directly from Microsoft that will enable you to access this account using Office Outlook. (If the above link doesn’t work, just go to http://download.microsoft.com and do a search for “outlook connector.”)

Skydrive

Every KCMA e-mail account comes with a “SkyDrive”, which enables you to store 25 gigabytes of your files on the Internet and access them from anywhere you have Internet access! To access your "SkyDrive," you can either navigate to http://skydrive.live.com or you can click the "More" button on the LiveMail toolbar, and then click the “Skydrive” button. You have personal folders (only you can see them); you can create shared folders and then grant access to them by e-mail address; and you can create public folders which can be viewed by anyone who has the link to those folders. If you want to go back to your email, just click the 'Mail' button on the toolbar.
