Kettering, Ohio (Oct. 14) In celebration of Veteran's Day, the Kettering College of
Medical Arts Campus Ministries program welcomes filmmaker Terry L. Benedict to Kettering
Seventh-day Adventist Church on Friday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to
the public.
Mr. Benedict will present his feature-length, award-winning documentary about Desmond
Doss, a combat medic who survived World War II without carrying a weapon. The film,
entitled "The Conscientious Objector," will be shown in its entirety, followed by refreshments
and an opportunity to meet Mr. Benedict.
Turning down opportunities to work on other films, Benedict was drawn to the story of
his boyhood hero, Desmond Doss. Doss’ personal spiritual convictions and his determination
to save lives made this Seventh-day Adventist World War II veteran the only conscientious
objector to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor, the highest military honor the United
States can bestow on one of her sons. After refusing Hollywood for 55 years, Desmond granted
Benedict the opportunity to tell this amazing story.
Veterans and current military personnel are specially invited to attend this event.
Kettering Seventh-day Adventist Church is located at 3939 Stonebridge Rd. in Kettering.
