College Faculty and Staff Mark End of School Year with Assembly and Special Awards
During the College’s annual spring general assembly on April 11, faculty and staff
celebrated Kettering College of Medical Arts’ 40th anniversary and received honors for their service.
Approximately 100 faculty and staff gathered in the College gymnasium for a buffet breakfast. They welcomed new employees, received updates on committee actions for the academic year and congratulated the recipients of the Staff Excellence Award and the Faculty Excellence Award.
This year’s Staff Excellence Award winner was Linda King, office assistant for the nursing program. Dr. Paul DeLange, chair of the arts and sciences program, received the Faculty Excellence Award. Winners, selected by their peers, must exhibit excellence in their professions; Christian caring both on and off the job; compassionate communication style; and collegiality in support of the College as a whole.
Following the meeting, each faculty and staff member received a golf umbrella imprinted with the 40th anniversary seal.
This celebration was the last in a series of celebratory programming planned and coordinated by the 40th anniversary committee. Other programming included a birthday party on Sept. 17, 2007, marking the exact day the College opened in 1967; a series of events during Alumni Weekend 2007; and a section of the College Web site dedicated to the college’s history, http://www.kcma.edu/40th.

Faculty
Excellence Award
Paul DeLange, Ph.D.
Chair, Arts and Sciences
Paul’s wife, Julie, used to teach here, but when she
left, Margaret Rodenburg, then chair of arts and sciences, hired Paul in order to have a DeLange on faculty. I had Paul for microbiology.
He was one of the hardest teachers I ever had. Even though I am not in health care, I remember a lot of what he taught, especially the practical things. He is also greatly appreciated by the students as well as faculty and staff. — Award presenter Teresa Simmons, assistant professor, Learning Commons |

Administrative Assistant, Nursing

I was so delighted to be able to introduce the recipient of the Staff Excellence Award this year. Words I would use to describe Linda include — and I don’t think I would get a fight out of anyone here about these:
- Gracious and caring
- Cool, calm, collected and so tactful
- Creative, organized and productive
- Collaborative — a wonderful team player
- Committed to the College, to students and to colleagues
Congratulations to Linda, my wonderful friend and colleague. — Award presenter Sharon Millard, Ph.D., chair, Bachelor of Science in Nursing program |
