In Loving Memory Anna May Vaughan
Oct. 17, 1922 – Nov. 2, 2007
Anna May Vaughan was one of the founders of Kettering College of Medical Arts. A nursing educator and nurse administrator, she was legendary for her personality, her vision, and her involvement in so many accomplishments at the College and hospital

Before coming to Kettering College, Anna May Vaughan spent more than 20 years in international nursing mission service in Africa and the Far East. After her service at Kettering College, she traveled widely, and just weeks before her death, she traveled to Alaska.

Anna May Vaughan had recently visited campus from her home in Oklahoma to attend an event for College founders. It was announced at that event, to her delight, that a new Kettering College facility for nursing education would be named in her honor. While we are pleased to know she was here for this exciting announcement, we are also saddened that she will be absent from the dedication of the Anna May Vaughan Center for Nursing Education.

Anna May Vaughan was an inspiring person, someone who, when she spoke, both renewed and energized our hearts. She was one of God’s wonders, one of God’s gifts to us all.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Anna May Vaughan Nursing Scholarship Endowment by visiting www.kmcfoundation.org.

In Loving Memory Don Martin
June 7, 1939 – Sept. 23, 2007
Don Martin, the oldest of five children, was the devoted son of Amos and Edith Martin of Nova Scotia, Canada. He attended Oshawa Missionary College and later received a bachelor’s degree from Atlantic Union College. He earned a masters’ degree from Andrews University and a doctoral degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. In 1968, Don joined the faculty at Kettering College of Medical Arts as a professor of history and religion, a position he held until his retirement in 1998.

In 1961, Don married the love of his life, Margaret Wilson, with whom he had two sons, Paul and Bobby. Among the joys of Don’s and Peg’s lives was opening their home to new and old friends. Family and friends were deeply important to Don, and he enjoyed the time he spent with his sons playing hockey, and with his three grandchildren.

Throughout his life, Don cherished his association with teaching. Prior to his service at Kettering College, he served four years as the dean of boys at Mount Vernon Academy. In 1974, he stated, “I enjoy Kettering College because of the small size, which allows for personal interaction with all the students, even those who may not be in my classes.” A lifelong student of the scriptures, Don looked forward each week to teaching and leading discussions in Sabbath School. The many years he spent teaching Sabbath School at the Miamisburg Seventh-day Adventist Church and most recently at the Kettering Seventh-day Adventist Church brought him great joy and spiritual fulfillment.

Anyone who knew Don knew that he loved the game of hockey. While a student at Miami University, he was the school’s hockey coach. He played the game most of his life and most recently enjoyed playing on a team with his son Paul in Kentucky.

In 2000, Don became associated with the Greater Dayton Emmaus community. Through these contacts and experiences, his Christian love and growth as well as his close walk with Jesus continued to develop. In addition, his inspiration and help to others in the walk with Christ epitomized the Christian life. We will all miss his heartwarming smile, his ever-encouraging words, and his patented hug.
