In addition to teaching, Beth oversees didactic instruction, clinical scan lab instruction, clinical site visiting, student advising, and education practicum experiences. She also is on the College’s institutional values committee and serves on the Senate.
In her teaching, Beth loves to “see the lights come on in the students’ eyes” and strives to create a secure atmosphere where students aren’t afraid to ask questions and learn. She finds it rewarding that she not only touches the lives of her students but also the lives of their current and future patients.
Outside of her classroom, Beth has given many presentations to local schools and medical centers, including a vascular in-service at Children’s Medical Center in Dayton; an introduction to sonography as a career at Arcanum High School; a cardiac sonography lecture series with hands-on scanning instruction for emergency medicine residents at Wright State University; and a basic echocardiography presentation for respiratory care students at Kettering College.
Beth is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Society of Echocardiography, the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, the Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky Society of Echocardiographers, and the Greater Dayton Ultrasound Society.
She and her husband, Matthew Maxwell, have been married eight years and have two children, Will, 3, and Kate, 1. Beth enjoys gardening, cooking, spending time with her children, and reading about current events in the medical field.
Beth was presented with the George B. Nelson Society Award in 1999.
