The College is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to
individuals with a disabling condition, according to provisions within
the Americans with Disabilities Act.
An individual is disabled or is deemed disabled under the ADA she/he:
- Suffers from a physical or mental impairment that substantially
limits one or more of the major life activities
of the individual.
- Has a record of such an impairment; or
- Is regarded as having such an impairment.
To receive assistance under ADA, the following conditions must be met:
Students are required to self-identify by registering their disability
with the Dean of Student Services two months
prior to the beginning of the semester.
Medical substantiation of the specific disability can be expected to
be required and students are responsible for any
associated costs.
Students must request to the Dean of Student Services, at least two
weeks in advance, the specific accommodations that they desire. The Dean
will contact faculty and staff who need to know about the request. The
College will make good faith efforts to provide reasonable accommodations.
With insufficient notice, the College may be unable to guarantee the students
will receive accommodations in time.
Determinations are made on a case-by-case basis.
Negotiating reasonable accommodations for students is taken seriously.
For this reason, any denial of accommodation
must be documented and reviewed progressively if not granted by:
1st The Director or Program Chair;
2nd The Dean responsible for the area where the accommodation is requested;
3rd The Appeals Committee for College operations;
4th The President.
