DIVISION OF EXTENSION EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
Caregiver Workshop for the Nonprofessional
Gain practical skills for a lifetime of giving
Help for those who will be caring for their family member upon discharge from the hospital or extended-care facility
IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR YOU?
As a result of shorter hospital stays, some family members are choosing to assume and perform many functions and duties previously provided by hospitals and nurses. Unprepared family members can find themselves anxious and frustrated because they do not have the medical knowledge or skills needed to provide care. Our goal is to provide information and instruction in those skills and to reduce anxiety, thus giving family caregivers the confidence to provide the most loving kind of home care.
Being accountable for a family members health and well-being is a big responsibility. By becoming overly involved, caregivers may lose a sense of themselves as individuals and become emotionally depressed or physically ill. Caregiving involves establishing effective emotional boundaries, setting reasonable limits on your work, and accepting assistance. Caregiving today includes learning how to care for oneself.
